The Tech for Good movement aims to solve society’s biggest problems through technological innovation. Aware360’s CTO and CompTIA Smart Cities Advisory Council member, Robert Forget, recently spoke about the movement in the fall issue of CompTIAWorld.
“Tech for Good is really about leveraging technology in ways that improves lives. It’s not something that needs to be separate from productivity and efficiency increases, we’re just focusing more on the person.”
Emerging technologies, like the Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain, are solving problems that seemed impossible a decade ago. An example of how the Tech for Good movement is applied today is Aware360’s partnership with the Safer Communities Initiative. Through their SafetyAware smartphone-app, vulnerable populations can access people who care and can dispatch help 24/7.
Manulife Financial, a Tech for Good member, has launched Manulife RED Lab, which focuses on researching, exploring, and developing new technologies for start-ups. With their partnership with Communitech, the RED Lab aims to solve the current problems that the financial industry is currently facing. With more research and development in tech, today’s issues will be a thing of the past.
These are only a few examples of how tech companies are beginning to focus on outcomes that go beyond an ROI and benefit society at large. With more initiatives like Tech for Good, innovation can take place, and we can look forward to a brighter future.
