Who: Students at a large US college
How Wearable Technology Made College Students More Safe
With over 2,500 aggravated assaults and almost 30 murders each year on US college campuses, it’s no wonder this college approached us with worries of increasing violent attacks, theft of student property and looming public relations scandals1.
Our team met with heads of security and information technology at the school to discuss exactly what their needs were. The college simply wanted to make it easy for students to send an SOS to campus safety and security anywhere on-campus. Taking this into account, we decided a discrete SOS-enabled wearable paired with a smartphone app would be the best option.
While discussing how to increase usage of the wearable device with students, the college came up with the amazing concept of integrating a tap-payment chip. What a great idea! This payment chip enabled students to easily buy items at all campus stores, which in turn made the students would be more likely to keep the SOS bands on them.
Campus security and those in charge of student safety began to have some peace of mind knowing next time there were any threats against their students they have the tools to locate everyone and send an emergency broadcast. Being in-charge of others’ children, regardless of age, is a serious responsibility. We are so glad to be able to help using our student safety solution to keep our future leaders connected and safe in their learning environment!
